The problem: gift buyers don't know your catalogue
Your regular customers know which serum or which roast they want. A holiday gift buyer doesn't. They land on a collection with 60 products, can't tell which suits their sister, and leave to buy a gift card somewhere else.
What it costs
- Paid holiday traffic that never converts, at the most expensive ad weeks of the year.
- Lost emails. A visitor who leaves without buying also leaves without a way to bring them back for the last-shipping-day push.
- Support load: "what would you recommend for…" chats and DMs that a quiz could answer.
- Quiz app bills: popular quiz apps list paid plans from about $15 to $49 a month (2026 roundup), a lot for a seasonal page.
The fix: a 4-question gift finder
- Tag products with recipient, budget band and style (e.g.
gift-her,under-50,cosy). - Keep it to 3–5 questions. Every extra question loses people.
- Use conditional logic so a "for a man" answer skips irrelevant style questions.
- Ask for the email before results, but make it optional, and promise the results plus the last order date.
- Link it everywhere: announcement bar, homepage hero, gift collection.
Can you do it free?
Yes, if you're comfortable editing theme code. There are free open-source quiz sections, e.g. Simple Shopify Product Quiz (up to four product outcomes, points-based) and the Sections.Design quiz (filters a collection by type, tag, vendor, price). They don't capture emails or report conversions, which is where an app earns its fee.
What Matchly adds

- Conditional logic that adapts the quiz to each answer.
- Recommendations by tag, collection, or hand-picked products.
- Contact capture: emails, names and phone numbers.
- Dashboard with responses, conversions and revenue per quiz.
- Integrations: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, Slack and more.
- $4/month or $40/year, 3-day free trial (listing, 29 Oct 2026).

Who should skip it
- Stores with fewer than about 10 products: a curated "gifts under $50" collection does the job.
- Developers happy with a free theme section and no email capture.
- Be aware: Matchly launched in June 2026 and had 1 review (5.0) on 29 Oct 2026. Use the 3-day trial to build and test the quiz before paying.
Verdict
A gift finder is the cheapest way to help holiday buyers who don't know your range, and the email you capture pays for the next campaign. Tag your products this week, build a 4-question quiz, and link it from your announcement bar before 27 November. At $4 a month, Matchly costs less than one lost order.
